AI may speed up financial analysis, but investors are not handing it the keys: an article by DHA Suffa University assistant professor Muhammad Waqas says a 2026 HSBC survey found that 73% of affluent and high-net-worth investors use AI for finance or investment, while just 12% said it was the biggest influence on their latest investment decision. The article says 62% named financial professionals and institutions as their main source of ideas.

Why it matters

Waqas argues that AI could make basic financial guidance cheaper and more accessible, while human advisers remain important for context, accountability and the moment a client is tempted to sell everything after a market fall. A spreadsheet can model a downturn; it cannot sit beside someone while they decide what to do.

Discuss: Should AI be allowed to give personalised investment recommendations directly, or should a qualified human adviser remain responsible for every consequential decision?
