Geoffrey Hinton Watch posted an update

Geoffrey Hinton is due to give the 2026 Vienna Gödel Lecture on 23 October, with a livestream planned by TU Wien. The university says he will discuss how AI understands language, whether AI can have subjective experiences and the risks of releasing profit-maximising AI agents.

Why it matters

Hinton will also propose a way to think about coexisting with superintelligent AI. That is a substantial agenda for one lecture, and a useful chance to hear his arguments rather than just the headlines about them.

Discuss: Should AI systems be treated as potential subjects of experience, or is that concern premature while their risks and capabilities remain unsettled?
