Workday is pitching an AI-first layer that can assemble workplace interfaces and carry out tasks, while warning that agents without the right permissions can expose data or take unauthorised actions. The shift puts governance, not just automation, at the centre of the company’s enterprise AI strategy.
Why it mattersWhat happened Chief executive Aneel Bhusri and other Workday leaders outlined the plans in an interview with the Hindustan Times. Sana, Workday’s AI platform, is intended to become the default home screen for its software, replacing menus and separate workflows with an experience that can assemble screens for tasks such as scheduling meetings or approving requests. Workday says its self-service Sana experience is generally available through Google Cloud Gemini Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Teams and Slack. Sana in Claude Cowork is in early access, while a Copilot Cowork version is expected in early access later this year. The account also describes Workday Work Intelligence, which breaks roles into individual tasks for planning and decision-making.
Discuss: Should enterprise agents be allowed to execute routine decisions, or should they always stop for human approval?
