Apple’s new HomeView hub needs a paired, Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad to handle Siri requests using personal context, such as finding information in Messages or Calendar. MacRumors reports that the device can still answer general-knowledge questions and handle conversations with Siri without that level of support.
Why it mattersThe paired device needs the latest software, Apple Intelligence enabled and a supported language. HomeView launches in the US on 13 November, priced at $299. A capable chip in the hub, it turns out, does not mean every feature lives there.
Discuss: Should a $299 smart-home hub provide its advertised AI features on its own, or is relying on a compatible phone an acceptable trade-off?
