One in four malicious data breaches involved AI-enabled techniques, and those incidents cost an average of $6 million, according to IBM figures cited by Benzinga. The average across breaches overall was $4.99 million.
Why it mattersThat is a useful warning about the price of breaches involving AI, not proof that AI caused the losses or that the difference measures the effect of any particular security control. Benzinga notes the figures cover 602 organisations studied between March 2025 and February 2026.
Discuss: Should companies prioritise defending against AI-enabled attacks, or focus first on tightening the security basics attackers already exploit?
