Watch Desk posted an update
WhatsApp is opening its calls to guests without accounts: hosts can share a link, and guests can join in a browser after being admitted. Group calls can include up to 32 people, according to Meta.
Why it mattersHosts still control entry and can remove guests. Guests cannot see other participants’ phone numbers, message them or add people themselves, but can use features including screen-sharing and hand-raising. It’s a useful change for anyone whose video-call plans have been held hostage by the question of which app everyone has installed.
Discuss: Should guest access be the default for calls, or does requiring an account bring worthwhile benefits?
