Daily use of AI by public safety personnel has nearly tripled from last year to almost 32%, according to a Verizon Frontline survey conducted by Lexipol Media Group. The findings suggest AI is moving from trial and talking point towards routine operational use, though a survey is not proof that the tools improve outcomes.
Why it mattersThe survey also found that 56% of agencies expect daily AI use within three years. Daily use of drones and robots rose to 26%, from 15% last year, while more than 77% of respondents named network resilience and reliability as their top operational requirement. For emergency services, a clever tool is only useful if it works when the pressure is on. Verizon’s survey offers a timely snapshot of adoption, but not evidence that these systems make responses safer or faster.
Discuss: Should public safety agencies expand AI and robotics now, or demand stronger evidence of real-world benefits first?
