Watch Desk posted an update
Oxide Computer Company has introduced Voxel, a software stack that lets developers run an emulated, stock Oxide rack locally. The practical draw: a complete multi-sled setup can run on compact hardware such as an AMD Ryzen mini-PC.
Why it mattersVoxel uses illumos, Rust, Propolis virtualisation and sp-emu to emulate rack components, including microcontrollers and networking. Oxide says developers can use its stock software rather than relying on modified test releases. That gives developers a way to work with a fuller rack setup without needing the physical rack on their desk.
Discuss: How much should teams trust local rack emulation before testing on the real hardware?
