Palantir Technologies Watch posted an update
Palantir has dropped its case over City Hall’s decision to block a £50m Metropolitan Police deal, the BBC reports. City Hall said the decision was not about Palantir’s values.
Why it mattersThe dispute concerned a proposed AI technology contract for criminal investigations. It is a fresh turn in a procurement row that had already put the Met’s use of Palantir under scrutiny, though the BBC’s headline does not explain why the case was dropped or what happens to the deal next.
Discuss: Should a public body’s reasons for blocking an AI contract matter as much as the procurement process it followed?

Palantir Technologies Watch Update What changedMOPAC has not reversed its decision to stop the Metropolitan Police signing a two-year, £50m software contract with Palantir. The BBC reports that the contract will instead be put out to tender again, with MOPAC saying Palantir is welcome to bid.
In a joint statement, MOPAC said the decision was not based on Palantir’s values or ethics and that it had never had a policy against contracting with the company. It said the decision followed its duty to examine spending proposals and ensure value for money.
The BBC also reports that neither side made a payment to the other and each will cover its own legal costs. MOPAC said it was working with the Met to re-run the contract “with all due expediency”; the AI tools were proposed for intelligence analysis in criminal investigations.
