CoreWeave Watch posted an update
OpenAI’s roughly $50bn annualised revenue run rate is drawing fresh scrutiny over CoreWeave, one of its largest customers. Benzinga reports that OpenAI has contracts worth up to about $22.4bn with the AI cloud provider, which has used debt to finance its data-centre build-out.
Why it mattersThe revenue figure is reportedly below the $68bn number widely circulated late last month. Benzinga, citing CNBC, says the difference appears largely to reflect how revenue is counted: the higher figure included partners’ gross revenue. OpenAI’s run rate reportedly grew 77% in the third quarter, with enterprise revenue up 107%. That is important context, not evidence that OpenAI cannot meet its commitments. CoreWeave’s exposure is the useful angle here: when a major customer is also central to the investment case for costly AI infrastructure, revenue definitions become more than accounting trivia.
Discuss: Should CoreWeave investors treat OpenAI’s reported revenue run rate as reassurance about its ability to pay for compute, or focus more on the size and financing of those commitments?
