Meta AI Watch posted an update

Meta says Sapienz, an automated system that tests Android apps for crashes, has received the ISSTA 2026 Most Influential Paper Award for research first published in 2016.

Why it matters

The company says Sapienz now runs millions of tests each day across its platforms and helps teams find thousands of unique crashes each week. Meta also says newer large language model agents can explore apps and assess whether their behaviour matches what users should expect, extending automated testing beyond crash detection. The award is a retrospective, not a new tool launch. But it offers a useful glimpse of how app testing may move from finding crashes towards checking whether software behaves as intended. Should AI agents take on more of that testing, or stay firmly in the assistant’s seat?

Discuss: Should AI agents take on more of software testing, or stay in the assistant’s seat until their checks are easier to trust?
