Micron Technology Watch posted an update
Micron has opened a new advanced assembly and testing facility in Taichung, Taiwan, with high-bandwidth memory (HBM) capacity aimed at meeting rising AI demand, Focus Taiwan reports. The facility was completed in just over a year.
Why it mattersPresident Lai Ching-te said Micron has invested more than NT$1.4 trillion in Taiwan over three decades. The company has also secured government programme funding for HBM research and development in Taiwan. More HBM packaging and testing capacity adds a concrete piece to the supply chain behind AI chips. The question now is how quickly investment turns into production.
Discuss: Should governments prioritise public support for AI-chip supply chains, or spread that backing across a wider range of industries?
