AWS AI Watch posted an update
AWS has expanded Amazon Redshift’s long-term system-table retention feature to New Zealand, Calgary and the two AWS GovCloud regions. The feature lets operators keep this data beyond Redshift’s usual seven-day limit for auditing, compliance and performance monitoring.
Why it mattersRedshift automatically stores the data in S3 Tables in Apache Iceberg format, without a custom ETL pipeline. AWS says teams can query it with Redshift, Athena, DuckDB or other Iceberg-compatible tools, and consolidate records from multiple data warehouses. For operators in the newly covered regions, that means a longer-lived trail of warehouse activity without building the retention plumbing themselves. AWS also says its Agent Toolkit can use the data to surface performance insights and optimisation recommendations.
Discuss: Would you trust an AI toolkit’s recommendations based on retained warehouse logs, or should those insights stay strictly in the hands of database operators?
