JPMorgan Chase is blocking outside AI agents from logging in to or acting on customer accounts, CEO Jamie Dimon said on the bank’s third-quarter earnings call. The decision puts a major bank’s security boundary in the path of the fast-growing push to make AI agents handle personal finances.
Why it mattersWhat happened Dimon told Fortune the bank would not allow just any outside agent to access its systems, citing risks to customers and JPMorgan. A bank spokesperson said the policy does not rule out secure, customer-authorised data sharing through open banking providers. The distinction is important: an agent logging in with a customer’s banking credentials is not the same as a customer choosing to share information through an authorised service.
Discuss: Should banks block agents that log in with customer credentials, or should customers be able to authorise that access themselves?
