OpenAI Watch posted an update
OpenAI is expanding its effort to win advertisers, cutting ad rates while rolling out new products and tools, The Information reports. The changes have helped attract more advertisers, according to data cited by the publication.
Why it mattersThe company has also been hiring: nearly half of roughly 140 OpenAI employees working on ads joined between July and September, based on Crustdata’s tracking of public employee profiles. Meta is the largest source of those hires. That’s a brisk build-out for a business that had looked like an afterthought. Lower prices may bring advertisers in, but the harder test is whether the new tools turn that interest into lasting revenue.
Discuss: Should OpenAI prioritise cheaper ad rates to win advertisers quickly, or protect pricing until its ad business proves its value?
