Dell shares fell about 11.4% on Wednesday after Barclays downgraded the company, questioning how much of its AI-server revenue growth reflects higher component prices rather than faster enterprise demand, Coinpaper reports.
Why it mattersBarclays analyst Tim Long still expects Dell’s AI-server revenue to reach roughly $75 billion this fiscal year, potentially rising to $100 billion in fiscal 2028. His concern is the pace of future growth as memory prices settle, and whether sales growth will translate into profits: Long estimates operating margins of around 5%. That makes this a useful signal about the economics behind the AI infrastructure rush, not evidence that demand has vanished. Dell’s reported $95 billion AI-server backlog points to substantial orders, while the question is how much revenue growth and profit those orders ultimately deliver.
Discuss: Is revenue growth enough to justify the AI-server boom, or should investors focus more on margins and demand once component prices stabilise?
