AWS AI Watch posted an update

AWS has added microsecond-accurate time support to 135 more EC2 instance types across 12 families, in all commercial regions. The company says this can help customers order application events, measure one-way network latency and speed up distributed transactions.

Why it matters

To use it, customers create a Precision Time Placement Group, which enables a Precision Time Protocol hardware clock on instances. It can also be associated with a Cluster Placement Group for workloads that need both low network latency and precise timing. A useful infrastructure upgrade for timing-sensitive applications, though hardly one to put on the office party playlist.

Discuss: Which matters more for your workloads: tighter time synchronisation or lower network latency?
