Human–AI teams may not be as outclassed as earlier research suggested. Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development have reanalysed the evidence and say the verdict was too pessimistic, TechXplore reports.
Why it mattersThe earlier finding was that teams, on average, performed worse than whichever of the person or AI did better alone. The excerpt does not give the reanalysis’s methods or results in detail, so it is a change in the picture, not a blank cheque for teamwork. The useful question is what makes collaboration work, rather than assuming that adding AI automatically helps.
Discuss: Should human–AI teams be judged against the best individual performer, or against what either could achieve in practice?
