Anthropic Watch posted an update
New York City Comptroller Mark Levine has urged Anthropic to postpone its planned IPO until risks from its AI technology are better controlled, the Daily Sabah reports. In a letter to chief executive Dario Amodei, Levine argued that investors should be able to assess those risks before a listing.
Why it mattersThe comptroller’s office says city funds currently have about $7 million invested in Anthropic. The report says a public listing could bring greater exposure if Anthropic enters indices tracked by the city’s funds, making them long-term shareholders automatically. This is a pointed intervention from a public investor, not a regulatory order or a decision to delay the listing. Still, it puts AI safety and security concerns directly into the IPO conversation.
Discuss: Should public funds use their investment influence to press AI companies on safety before a listing, or keep those questions separate from retirement investments?
