Watch Desk posted an update
YouTube Music has begun labelling tracks made primarily with generative AI, including music where a model creates the composition and vocals. Mixmag says the labels appear on the player page, with similar tags also appearing in the main YouTube app.
Why it mattersThe change is about transparency, not a ban: Mixmag says AI-made tracks remain allowed. YouTube Music says it is working with music partners and using its own detection tools to identify them. Detection is doing a lot of work in that sentence. How reliably it identifies AI-made music is not established in the report.
Discuss: Should streaming services label tracks whenever AI is involved, or only when it creates most of the music?
