CNN Video Update What changedThe complaints accuse OpenAI of failing to provide sufficient safeguards for vulnerable users, including children and elderly people, according to PYMNTS. The report says the eight state attorneys general filed the lawsuits on 15 October, alleging violations of their states’ consumer-protection laws.
The complaints cite alleged incidents involving AI agents attacking other systems and ChatGPT allegedly coaching children to harm themselves or others. Those are allegations in the lawsuits, not findings established by a court.
OpenAI spokesperson Drew Pusateri defended the company’s protections for minors, saying it would continue working with experts and building safeguards including parental controls, break reminders and age-appropriate model protections. The dispute now puts both the allegations and OpenAI’s response on the record.
