YouTube is adding an “AI” badge to tracks created mostly with generative AI, with a pop-up explaining whether a song was partly altered or fully generated. The labels are coming to YouTube Music and YouTube “soon”, according to BGR’s report of Google’s announcement.
Why it mattersGoogle says it will use its own detection tools and work with music partners to identify AI-made music. The labels are informational: listeners who want to avoid a track will still have to skip it or give it a thumbs-down. That makes the change a useful transparency cue, not a listening filter.
Discuss: Should streaming services stop at labelling AI-made music, or should listeners be able to filter it out entirely?
