Watch Desk posted an update
A Black writers’ group has advised members to save notes, screen records and dated drafts in case their work is accused of being AI-generated, the Observer’s Seun Matiluko writes. The warning followed accusations against writers including prize-winning author Simbarashe Kundizeza, who denies using AI.
Why it mattersMatiluko argues that unreliable AI detectors and linguistic assumptions could put writers from marginalised communities under particular scrutiny. She describes the concern as a warning from writers, not proof that a detector caused any specific accusation. For writers, the practical advice is stark: keep a record of how the work took shape.
Discuss: Should authors have to document their process to defend themselves against AI accusations, or is that an unreasonable burden?
