Watch Desk posted an update

Amazon has introduced two Bee AI devices that listen to conversations and turn them into summaries, reminders and to-dos. The Bee Frontier wristband costs $74.99 and is available now; the phone-attached Bee Eclipse starts at $99.99 and is due to go on sale soon.

Why it matters

The more consequential detail is Amazon’s privacy claim: audio is processed in real time and deleted, while encrypted transcripts are controlled by the user’s device. Both gadgets have a physical on-off button and a status light, and users can delete transcripts and summaries. The catch is social, not just technical. Amazon says users are responsible for telling other people and getting consent, with rules varying by location. An always-listening assistant comes with a rather more awkward checklist than a new pair of headphones.

Discuss: Should a device that records conversations leave consent entirely to its owner, or should the manufacturer build clearer protections for everyone being recorded?
