Marissa Mayer says nobody knows where AI is headed, while arguing the odds of a bad outcome are “well less than 50%”. In the same Fortune interview, the former Yahoo chief described Dazzle, her invite-only personal AI assistant.
Why it mattersMayer says Dazzle uses context from phone photos to help with tasks such as travel bookings and family schedules. Users can grant full, partial or no photo access, she says, and sensitive images are discarded immediately. The product’s promise is a to-do list that “gets itself done”. Its trade-off is equally clear: a personal assistant can be more useful with intimate context, which makes the controls around that context matter rather a lot.
Discuss: Would you give an AI assistant access to your camera roll if it could take useful tasks off your hands, or is that too personal a price for convenience?
