Reliance Jio’s partnership with Google has helped Gemini add 13 million subscribers to its paid service, Jio Platforms managing director Akash Ambani said at a press conference, according to The Economic Times.
Why it mattersThat is a striking adoption figure for a partnership pitched as more than distribution. It is Ambani’s account, not a breakdown of how the subscribers were counted or how much credit belongs to Jio. Still, it offers a glimpse of how local partnerships may help AI services find paying customers at scale. The number is doing a lot of work; the method behind it matters too.
Discuss: Should partnerships that bring in paid AI subscribers count as proof of lasting demand, or do they need to show that customers stay once the initial offer ends?
