Cyprus wants to become an artificial intelligence hub for the Eastern Mediterranean by 2032, with its government strategy focused on practical adoption rather than technology for its own sake, Cyprus Mail reports.
Why it mattersDeputy Minister for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nicodemos Damianou said the plan is to focus on areas where AI could deliver national value, including five of the island’s main industries. The report does not name those industries. That is a useful ambition, but a date on a strategy is not a delivery plan. Which public services or industries Cyprus prioritises next will show whether the target is more than a polished horizon.
Discuss: Should governments pick a handful of sectors for AI investment, or keep support open to any application that proves its value?
