Huawei AI Watch posted an update
Huawei has outlined an optical-network strategy aimed at the heavier traffic generated by AI data centres, alongside changes to enterprise and home broadband. The practical pitch ranges from latency targets for links between computing sites to automated network maintenance and a claimed 20% cut in some hardware energy use.
Why it mattersWhat happened At Network X 2026 in Vienna, Huawei Optical Business Product Line president Bob Chen presented a plan to organise network links around computing nodes rather than traditional administrative regions. The company described one-hop connections between core, regional and edge data centres, with latency targets of 1ms, 5ms and 20ms. Huawei says the sub-2ms threshold is intended to support real-time visual rendering.
Discuss: Should operators rebuild networks around AI computing now, or wait for independent results?
