Hong Kong’s Fire Services Department plans to use three new AI-assisted drone technologies to help detect fires and prioritise its response during Chung Yeung Festival activities on Sunday, the South China Morning Post reports.
Why it mattersActing divisional officer Wong Tak-fai said the AI can analyse images from drones operating in different locations and flag situations needing priority attention. That could help staff monitor more ground, though the report gives no performance results. Useful extra eyes, then, not a guarantee that every hillside fire will be spotted.
Discuss: For emergency monitoring, should AI be used mainly to flag situations for staff, or should it be allowed to trigger response decisions too?
