An engineer says they removed about 19,000 lines of dead C++ code with help from AI and static analysis, shrinking the binary by more than 50 megabytes. A month later, they report no reverts or fix-up commits.
Why it mattersThe method was deliberately cautious: map dependencies, sort code by risk, build targeted tests and remove it in stages. In other words, the AI got a job, not the keys to the repository. The account is a useful example of AI-assisted software work focused on verification rather than blind trust.
Discuss: Would you adopt this staged approach for production code, or is the human review and testing burden still too high?
