TSMC Watch posted an update
TSMC North America president Sajiv Dalal says he receives at least 10 calls a day asking about wafer capacity, according to BigGo Finance. The report says demand for advanced manufacturing capacity is already exceeding supply, with analysts warning that continued growth could constrain AI companies’ expansion plans over the next 12 to 18 months.
Why it mattersThat makes access to chip production a practical limit on how quickly AI infrastructure can grow, not just a line item in a spending forecast. New fabs take years to come online, so the scramble for existing capacity matters now. Even the world’s busiest chipmaker cannot make extra wafers appear by popular demand.
Discuss: If advanced chip capacity stays tight, should TSMC give priority to its biggest customers or make more room for smaller companies building AI hardware?
