Ulaanqab in Inner Mongolia has 89 data-centre projects, with intelligent computing accounting for more than 90% of its computing capacity, according to China Daily. The figures sketch a growing AI-computing hub, backed by a region with more than half of China’s wind resources.
Why it mattersThe report also says Inner Mongolia’s installed power capacity exceeds 300 million kilowatts, including 176 million kilowatts from renewables. For AI infrastructure, the useful story is not just how many servers arrive, but whether power can keep pace.
Discuss: Should AI data-centre growth be steered towards regions with abundant renewable power, even if that concentrates computing infrastructure in fewer places?
