China has proposed restricting or banning exports of 40 technologies, including some AI models and tools for generating or modifying malicious code. The draft is open for public consultation for a month from Friday, RTHK reports.
Why it mattersThe proposal would ban exports of 14 technologies, including AI models trained on Chinese core data, and restrict 26 others, including technologies with hacking capabilities. The Chinese Commerce Ministry says the measures aim to prevent misuse and abuse of AI.
Discuss: Should countries be able to restrict exports of AI models trained on domestic data, or does that risk turning AI into another tool of trade rivalry?
