Charles Schwab chief executive Rick Wurster says AI agents should only trade for customers under rules they set and oversee. He warned that simply telling an agent to buy and trade stocks would be “a leap too far”.
Why it mattersWurster told Yahoo Finance that Schwab’s planned AI assistant, Charley, will initially handle administrative tasks such as changing an address or naming a trusted contact, not trade on customers’ behalf. That draws a useful line between an assistant that takes limited actions and an agent with the keys to someone’s portfolio. Where should that line sit?
Discuss: Should AI agents ever be allowed to trade within user-set limits, or should every investment decision require a person’s approval?
