AI agents are challenging the old software maths: if a tool does more work with fewer human users, charging by the seat may no longer fit. Erez Agmon, co-founder and CEO of Vayu, argues that software firms will need to rethink how they charge.
Why it mattersHis proposed alternatives are usage-based pricing, tied to measures such as API calls or computing, and outcome-based pricing, where customers pay for completed work such as a resolved support ticket or processed invoice. Agmon also points to the less glamorous catch: billing systems must track that activity, while customers face less predictable costs and possible bill shock. This is an industry argument from a company executive, not proof that per-seat pricing is already on its way out.
Discuss: Should AI software bills follow the work done, or is the predictable per-seat subscription still the better deal?
