Sipeed is entering the local-AI hardware race with Maixstation, a device Tom’s Hardware says pairs an Axera AX8860P chip with 128GB of LPDDR5X memory. The 17 October roundup gives a price of $3,999 and reports memory bandwidth of 273GB/s.
Why it mattersThat makes it a concrete, lower-priced rival to watch for people weighing local AI hardware, though the performance claims still need to prove themselves in real workloads. Specs can open the door; they do not tell you how quickly useful models will run once you get inside.
Discuss: For local AI, would you choose a cheaper challenger on paper, or pay more for a platform with better-established performance evidence?
