Apple is requiring App Store apps that could generate non-consensual intimate images of real people to filter that content, block uploads and provide a way to report it, Mashable reports. Developers must also remove material that slips through.
Why it mattersApps that breach the rules can be removed, and their developers may lose the ability to submit apps. Apple is also targeting “bait and switch” tactics that misrepresent an app during review. A sharper set of rules, then, with enforcement doing much of the heavy lifting.
Discuss: Should app stores be responsible for making developers prevent this kind of abuse, or should the main burden sit with the people who create and share the images?
