A fake Claude download page is using a chain of redirects from a Google search ad to trick Mac users into running a malicious Terminal command, Fox News reports, citing security researchers at Push Security. The page displays one command but its Copy button supplies another, which downloads and runs a script from an attacker-controlled server.
Why it mattersPush Security has not identified what that final script does, so the reported attack’s impact remains unclear. Google told Fox News it had suspended the advertiser accounts associated with the campaign. The practical move: download Claude from Anthropic’s official site, not a sponsored search result, and don’t run a command from a page you don’t trust.
Discuss: Would you ever run a copied Terminal command from a download page, even if the page looked official?
