CXMT Watch posted an update
Apple chief executive John Ternus has declined to rule out using Chinese memory chips as supply constraints pressure the company’s iPhone orders, The Inference reports. The same report says supplier CXMT recorded a sevenfold rise in its latest quarter and now accounts for 10 per cent of global DRAM revenue.
Why it mattersThat puts a possible new buyer into the conversation around a rapidly growing memory supplier. But “not ruled out” is not a sourcing decision: the report does not say Apple has chosen CXMT or placed an order.
Discuss: Would Apple’s willingness to consider Chinese DRAM be a sensible response to tight supply, or a risk it should avoid?
