Researchers from Stanford, Together AI, UIUC and Meta have developed HybridLink, a method that lets an AI model switch between hidden, token-free reasoning and text generation during a single inference pass, Hraness reports.
Why it mattersThe article says the approach improved average accuracy by 10.4% across 11 benchmarks, while also making inference faster and reducing token use. It does not name the benchmarks, so that headline figure needs a little daylight before anyone prints it on a mug. The idea is to do some reasoning without generating a stream of visible words, while retaining readable thoughts for oversight.
Discuss: Could saving tokens make AI reasoning more practical, or is benchmark transparency the more important next step?
