Axera has unveiled the AX8860P, a 16-core Cortex-A55 chip rated for up to 256 TOPS of AI performance, CNX Software reports. It is aimed at desktop AI systems, with Radxa and Sipeed among the partners planning hardware based on it.
Why it mattersSipeed’s planned MaixStation is described as significantly cheaper than competing NVIDIA systems, though no price is given. That makes the chip an emerging option for compact AI computing, not yet a priced or independently tested alternative.
Discuss: Would you choose a lower-cost local AI computer on headline performance alone, or wait for real-world benchmarks and pricing?
