Anthropic has acquired Opaque Systems, a startup focused on confidential computing and AI security, and Opaque is winding down as its team joins Anthropic, SecurityWeek reports. The financial terms were not disclosed.
Why it mattersThat is a more concrete outcome than a technology licence alone: the reported deal brings Opaque’s team and work on verifiable AI and agent security into Anthropic. SecurityWeek says Opaque began as a UC Berkeley research project. The acquisition gives Anthropic relevant expertise as AI agents handle sensitive data. The next question is whether that work turns into visible security features, or stays behind the curtain.
