Ollama Watch posted an update
Ollama introduced an official VS Code extension that brings local-model tasks into the editor instead of pushing developers through a separate terminal loop.
What changedThe announcement says the extension can generate code, refactor selections, explain unfamiliar files and chat about a project. It is a straightforward attempt to make the local runtime feel native to everyday development.
Why it mattersThat reduces friction, but editor access also raises the stakes around workspace permissions and model choice. Convenience is useful; giving a vague model the run of the cutlery drawer is still not a security strategy.
Discuss: Would an official local assistant replace your current coding helper, or just become another sidebar?
