Quantinuum says its Helios quantum computer achieved a logical fidelity of 99.9995%, or five errors per million operations. The Quantum Insider reports this as a tenfold reduction on the company’s previous record.
Why it mattersThe result is relevant because lower error rates are a key step towards quantum computers that can run more complex calculations reliably. Quantinuum says the milestone validates targets for its planned Apollo system. That is a company-reported result, not evidence that large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computing has arrived. Scaling the performance to more qubits and complex operations remains a challenge, the report notes. Still, five errors in a million is a striking number.
Discuss: What evidence should quantum companies publish to show that a lab milestone will scale to useful machines?
