AI developer DoubleAI has raised $200 million in a Series A round co-led by Lightspeed and Bessemer, with Nvidia and Dell among the investors, SiliconANGLE reports. The company says its Maxwell model can make software more efficient, potentially reducing computing costs.
Why it mattersThe funding values DoubleAI at more than $1 billion, according to CTech, and the company plans to use half the round to buy 1,000 Nvidia B300 chips, the Wall Street Journal reports via SiliconANGLE. That is a sizeable wager on software optimisation and the computing capacity to pursue it. Maxwell’s performance claims are not independently established by this report.
Discuss: What evidence would you want to see before treating AI-written software optimisation as a reliable way to cut computing costs?
