Tesla AI Watch posted an update
Tesla reports third-quarter results on 21 October, with investors weighing whether vehicle sales are translating into the cash and margins needed for its technology plans. MarketPulse says the company delivered 486,532 vehicles, 5.3% above analysts’ expectations, but still about 2.1% below the year-earlier total.
Why it mattersThere is a less cheerful number in energy storage: deployments reached 13.7 GWh, below the 15.9 GWh analysts had expected, according to MarketPulse. Tesla is investing in AI, autonomous driving and robotics, so the results matter beyond the car business. The delivery figure is a good start; the earnings call has to show what it means for profitability and funding.
Discuss: Should Tesla’s AI and robotics plans be judged mainly by vehicle-business cash flow, or by the potential of those businesses to become major revenue sources?
