Xiaomi AI Watch posted an update
Xiaomi promoted 31-year-old AI researcher Luo Fuli to its highest-level position, according to the South China Morning Post. The move came about 10 months after she joined as head of the company’s large language model unit.
Why it mattersLuo had already drawn attention in 2024, when Xiaomi founder Lei Jun publicly said he hoped to hire her. The report also notes that, as a master’s student at Peking University in 2019, she was listed as an author on eight papers at the Association for Computational Linguistics’ annual meeting. A rapid rise, then, for a researcher whose work now sits inside Xiaomi’s AI operation.
Discuss: What should matter most when a company elevates an AI researcher: technical track record, leadership, or the results their team delivers?
