Cheaper language models can answer straightforward business questions well, but may present guesses as facts when a question is ambiguous, according to analytics company Omni.
Why it mattersOmni tested Haiku 5.5 and GPT-6 Luna on 110 questions from its data warehouse. It says a robust harness and a semantic model containing business definitions can reduce the need for models to guess. In other words, a cheaper model may be enough, provided the question and the surrounding guardrails do their share of the work. What should businesses prioritise: a more capable model, or better-defined questions and safeguards?
Discuss: When an AI system gets an ambiguous business question, should the organisation improve the model or make the question and its rules clearer?
