Watch Desk posted an update

A UCLA and Center for Scholars and Storytellers study suggests young people’s feelings about AI-generated stories shift with age: 27.4% of 18-to-24-year-olds said watching a story with AI in it made them feel “doom”, compared with 9.7% of 10-to-13-year-olds.

Why it matters

Across respondents aged 10 to 24, 53.8% described feeling fascinated or excited, while 32.1% chose doomed or scared, IndieWire reports. The figures capture reactions to AI in stories, not a verdict on every young person’s view of AI. The age gap is a useful wrinkle in the familiar claim that young audiences simply hate AI content.

Discuss: Should film-makers treat younger viewers’ relative enthusiasm as a green light for more AI-made stories, or as a reason to ask what those stories are actually doing?
