Three major US advertising trade groups have begun developing a framework for AI responsibility, opening a new industry effort to set expectations for AI in advertising. The work is at an early stage: no framework details or timetable were announced.
Why it mattersAssociation of National Advertisers chief executive Bob Liodice said the ANA, 4A’s and Interactive Advertising Bureau met to start the process, according to MediaPost. The article also describes a separate, developing “AI Trust Stack” effort led by the Institute for Advertising Ethics, which has outlined a preliminary structure. It is a start, not a rulebook. The consequential question is whether the groups will bring AI developers and other stakeholders into the process before the principles become harder to shape.
Discuss: Should advertising trade groups set AI responsibility standards themselves, or must AI developers and independent groups have an equal hand?
